This class will focus on the various techniques that Betty uses in Photoshop when working with color and light in her images. Students will learn how to maximize the potential in their images by adding dramatic light and color. She will show you how to use the various types of adjustment layers to add, modify and change the colors and/or tones in your images as well as how to “paint” with color and how to use color gradients and color fill layers. She will also cover fixing problems such as color casts in your images and how to use selective color to modify existing colors, such as turning a summer scene into fall. She will also cover ways to modify and add light in Photoshop using adjustment layers and making selections to add interest and depth to images and will show you her preferred method for dodging and burning and adding custom vignettes and much more.

Skill level: Intermediate.

Class Prerequisites: This class is aimed at students who have familiarity with Photoshop and want to take their skills to the next level. Students must have a working knowledge of using Photoshop to take this class and possess basic computer skills and have a computer that is in good working condition. Students should have a recent version of Photoshop (Photoshop 2019 or higher is recommended) installed on their computers. Detailed class notes will be provided to all registered participants.  This class will be recorded and made available to all registered participants for a period of 10 days on a private page that will be provided after the class.

Betty Wiley is an award-winning professional freelance and fine art photographer based on Cape Cod. She conducts photography workshops on Cape Cod and elsewhere in New England and is well known speaker, instructor and workshop leader. She teaches Lightroom and Photoshop and creative processing techniques for the Cape Cod Art Association, Alison Caron Design Studio in Hyannis and for camera clubs and other organizations throughout New England. In addition, she is a frequent contributor to various magazines and publications including Chatham Living Magazine, Cape Cod Guide, Chatham Guidebook and others and many of her images have appeared on the cover of those magazines. She believes that good light and composition are keys to a successful image and she is often out before sunrise and at sunset to capture the beautiful light that Cape Cod is known for. She is the author of a popular ebook entitled Capturing the Light: A Photographer’s Guide to Cape Cod which is available for purchase and download on her website.
